Painting Wind Whipped Waves at The Atlanta Trevone Bay Art Retreat
While the approaching storm whipped the sea and clouds into a muted palette of soft sea greens, steely blues and muted greys we tucked ourselves away in the warmth of Atlanta Trevone Bay's > luxury clifftop self catering apartments to spend a few peaceful hours expressing the beauty of the moment with oil paint and palette knife.
The Gentle Hush Of Unhurried Creativity
Hours passed by where the guests enjoyed the visceral quality of painting with oils simply using a palette knife to build up layers of expressive colour to create their own Cornish inspired seascape paintings of Trevone Bay Beach.
For many the palette knife gave the freedom to push the paint around on the canvas not confined to detail or perfection. A gentle hush came over the room as everyone became absorbed in their paintings.
Atlanta Trevone was also home to famous artist JHC Millar, favoured by King George V, who took inspiration from the same sea views we painted from the properties pictorsque windows.
Hosted by Well Curated Magazine > and Passaro Publicity > the art masterclass formed a part of a relaxing intinery of wildswimming in Trevone Bay’s tidal pool, relaxing massages to a line up of expert chefs offering nutrious Cornish fine dining including Masterchef finalist Claire Fyfe, Emily Scott and Duchy Grub.

Simple expressive colour palettes of Trevone Bay Beach
Even with little prior painting experience its simple to create an array of harmonious colour palettes with just a handful of simple colour mixing principles.
Before settling down to paint there was time to demonstrate how to mix atmospheric palettes, combining palette knife techniques with some brushwork so that the guests could each develop their own intuitive approach to their seascape paintings.

It’s fascinating how each individual painting can be so wildly different - a beautiful expression of each person.
Each guest left the art retreat with a selection of small studies on oil paper, which also can make wonderful gifts with a personal touch when framed, and a larger seascape piece.

Situated along the South West Coast Path the self catering partments are a stones throw from Trevone Bay’s two beaches, with beautiful ciruclar coastal walks to Gunver Bay, Padstow and Harlyn Bay.
